Will Lab Grown Diamond's Test Positive as a Diamond?
Lab grown diamonds will typically test positive as diamonds when using a standard diamond tester. These testers work by measuring a diamond's thermal conductivity, a property that both natural and lab grown diamonds share. As a result, they can't differentiate between natural and lab grown diamonds because the thermal conductivity of lab grown diamonds is very close to that of natural diamonds.
However, it's worth noting that some advanced testing methods, such as spectroscopy or advanced imaging techniques, can help distinguish between natural and lab grown diamonds by detecting specific features or trace elements that may be present in one and not the other. Additionally, some high-quality lab grown diamonds may include inscriptions or come with lab certificates that clearly indicate their origin, making it easier to identify them as lab grown.
If you're concerned about the origin of a diamond and want to know whether it's natural or lab grown, it's a good practice to consult with a professional gemologist or use advanced testing methods for a definitive answer.
